The South Bay PBA is excited to announce it will be hosting the State courses to obtain a Firefighter Type II certificate, along with additional community workshops! There will be 20 available spots for the Firefighter Type II training.
As part of the FFT2 courses/training, we will be hosting a one-day, in-person field exercise (S-130) on June 27, 2026.
Prior to participating in this June 27th’s Field Day, participants MUST complete the following five required courses by May 15th. Registration form is coming soon!

Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2):
To begin the virtual portion of training, participants must create an account on the Wildland Fire Learning Portal and enroll in the following online courses:
- S-130 Firefighter Training (Blended – Online Component) 2025 v2
- S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (Online) 2023 v4
- L-180 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service (Online) 2014 v3
Participants must also create an account with FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute (EMI) and complete:
- ICS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System (Online)
- IS-700: NIMS, An Introduction (Online)
Note: The EMI website is currently unavailable due to a federal funding lapse. Due to the lapse in federal funding, the EMI website is not being actively managed. The website was last updated on February 13, 2026, and will not be updated until after funding is enacted. We will provide an update when it becomes available. In the meantime, participants can begin the first three courses.
The above five courses provide the foundation for Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) certification. To complete your certification (proof of course completion is required to apply), participants must also complete/attend the following:
- S-130: one-day field exercise (In-person, required)
- Work Capacity Test: complete a 3-mile walk over level terrain in 45 minutes or less while carrying a 45-pound pack (In-person, required)
