Three groupings of eucalyptus trees near the Redwood Estates store and Post office have been removed and the stumps were cut to grade and treated to prevent regrowth. Eucalyptus trees are notorious for being extremely flammable and spreading firebrands. When the oils in the trees heat up, the plant releases flammable gas, which ignites into a fireball. This accelerates the eucalyptus fire hazards in a region and discourages firefighting efforts. Removal of the trees had been recommended largely due to eucalyptus fire damage, but also because they were taking the place of native species.
